Just wanted to give everyone a big thanks for all the kind msgs over the past few weeks and an even bigger thanks for all the love and support throughout the years. The big day is tomorrow (20th), qualifiers start at 6.30pm and finals at 9.55pm Sochi time. With the time difference it will be aired on the 21st in Australia, qualifiers at 1.30am and finals 4.30am on channel 10. So for anyone who is keen to stay up late or get up early that is when I’ll be on. I’ve been a little slack with updating everyone lately with what’s going on so I do apologise but I’ll be trying to keep updates going on my twitter and Instagram accounts both: davinarwilliams (before and after the competition). Again, a big thanks and I look forward to catching up with everyone back home soon x
The last month has been super busy here in Colorado, it has flown by so quick! Training and competition has kept me busy with two out of three World Cups this season already done and dusted. At the first World Cup in Copper, Colorado I placed 18th and this week in Calgary, Canada I placed 9th. I am pretty happy so far with how things have gone, with the New Zealand World Cup a few months ago included I’ve placed inside the top 20 at all 3 World Cups I’ve entered after having a considerable amount of time off competition. So far this year I’ve been working on getting back to where my skiing was 2 years ago before time off and injuries, and so far it’s coming along. I still don’t have the desired competition run I know I can do ready, but sticking to the game plan and using my safe run in every competition is getting to me where I need to be.
With only 3 of the Olympic qualifying World Cups completed I’ve got a top 10 result and currently sitting just on the bubble of the adjusted top 24 Olympic field (the field size for the Olympics will be 24 for Halfpipe). So, SO FAR SO GOOD! Its been a hard slog having to play catch up with the rest of the field, as they have already had 6 World Cups completed ahead of me from last season in which they accumulated points towards their world ranking (10 World Cups/World Championships all up in the Olympic qualifying period). So with the last World Cup in Breckenridge, Colorado this week, I should know pretty soon if I have qualified or not…
Just a little bit nervous ;-)
It’s been a little while in between posts lately, but here’s the latest. After a month off snow back home in Sydney I have finally made it back to Colorado, USA where I will base myself until the end of January. During this time I will have 3 World Cup competitions to qualify from for the Sochi Olympics. As I sat last season out and it was an Olympic qualifying season I will have less opportunities than most of the field to qualify from. However, with a solid effort on and off snow these past 5-6 months I am feeling pretty confident of what’s to come. The first World Cup competition will be held here in Colorado at Copper Mountain resort on the 18th of December. There’s still no halfpipe open here to train in, but Coppers pipe looks to be opening later this week, until then, just gym and groomers!
